Our Langtang Valley Trek starts with a 7–8 hour drive to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu, and what a drive it is! We will catch great views of villages, rivers, and terraced fields along the way. The trail ascends gradually uphill from and through forests and villages on the Langtang River till we reach Kyanjin Gompa, a meadow. The actual trekking trail starts in Syabrubesi where we pass through forested areas in the Langtang National Park. Being inside the National Park has its own charm as there’s so much diversity in plants and animal life in the Langtang region. The sound of river flowing close by and birds chirping make this trek quite relaxing as well. The Langtang National Park is the first national park in Nepal which was established in 1976 AD.
The park is home to several endangered wildlife species including the Himalayan black bear, the Himalayan tahr, and the red panda. There are over 1,000 known plant species in the park, which contributes to its rich botanical diversity. In addition to its wide variety of plants and animals, the park also showcases some magnificent scenery as it borders Tibet. Hence, with respect to the preservation of wildlife, flora, and fauna, trekkers are required to have a Langtang National Park permit before embarking on Langtang Valley Trek. Nepal Mountain Guide will be handling the operation of issuing the required permits for this trek.
We continue trekking as per our Langtang Vallery Trek itinerary further on towards Lama Hotel which is our first main stop; a small village surrounded by lush green forest alongside towering cliffs with numerous waterfalls. Our trekking then continues towards our main destination i.e. Langtang Village which was significantly affected by the 2015 earthquake. However, with the effort and patience of the locals along with the love and support of the tourists, the area has been rebuilt and reconstructed drastically and adorably. Taking some time out to stay overnight here and interacting with the locals to learn their culture, lifestyle, and rebuilding process would certainly give us an insight into reality before moving along. After an overnight stay, we will move ahead on a final push to Kyanjin Gompa, the highest point/spiritual sanctuary so far.
Kyanjin Gompa is one of the highlights of the Langtang Trek, which is at an elevation of 3,870 meters. This serene and religiously vibrant place has breathtaking landscapes all around it thus being an idyllic acclimatization point for hikers. From Kyanjin Gompa; there is a side trip on Tserko Ri to have spectacular views across the Langtang range and beyond. The climb to Tserko Ri is demanding yet satisfying with the feeling of having achieved something and also experiencing amazing scenes that will take your breath away.
