Local Culture

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek includes traditional Gurung and Magar villages including the vibrant Ghorepani village itself. Starting our journey with a drive or flight to Pokhara, we will trek through suspension bridges, waterfalls, bushes, and settlements like Ulleri, Tikhedhunga, Ghandruk, Tapadapni, etc. These settlements offer trekkers the experience of the local culture, customs, and warm hospitality and of course, the delicious local dishes to re-energize us during our Ghorepani Trekking.

Since we will be staying and lodges/tea-houses during our Ghorepani Trek, the menu mostly features authentic Nepali cuisine such as dal bhat (lentil soup with rice). However, a variety of international dishes like pasta, noodles, and pancakes, and so on are also available to devour along this short and easy trek in Nepal.

Annapurna Conservation Area

As the Ghorepani Trekking trail exists within the Annapurna Conservation Area, the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is required to trek in Ghorepani along with Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card. Trekkers can obtain these permits in Kathmandu or Pokhara via an officially registered trekking agency like Nepal Mountain Guide.

When to trek Ghorepani?

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek can be organized and embarked upon at any time of the year. This is a short trekking with moderate difficulty so the time-frame will not be an issue to trek Poon Hill. However, we highly recommended going for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) for the best experience with optimal weather conditions and breathtaking scenery. The months of Spring allow trekkers to enjoy the blooming rhododendrons with vivid scenery. On the other hand, the months of Autumn offer clear mountain views as well as festivity. The trek can be embarked as a solo and independent trekker but having a knowledgeable trekking guide will certainly make a difference. Our highly experienced trekking guide will provide deeper insight into the lifestyle, and culture of the locals along with a worthwhile description of the trails and the natural splendor.
