Overview

Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is an adventuresome journey encircling the world’s 7th highest mountain, Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m). It is an off-the-beaten trekking in Nepal with arduous and isolated trails. As we pass through remote valleys and high passes, the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a spine-tingling experience offering breathtaking vistas of the landscapes and mountain panorama. It is a prolonged journey in the Dhaulagiri region of Nepal at the Myagdi district of Nepal which is west of the Annapurna range. Trekkers will be amazed with the astounding vistas of Dhaulagiri ranges, Annapurna ranges, and several others mountains over 7,000m.

During our Dhaulagiri Circuit aka Dhaulagiri Round Trek, we will walk through alpine pastures, high-altitude passes, and isolated and deserted valleys. We can experience a variety of landscapes along the trail from lush bushes to snowy glaciers and rocky cliffs. It is a challenging and rewarding venture famous for the virgin route, the eye-dazzling vistas of Mt. Dhaulagiri – the white mountain (in the local language), and the surrounding peaks along with the local culture untouched by modernity.

The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek itinerary includes crossing two high crossings (French Pass (5360m) and Dhampus Pass (5200m)), going to three outstanding base camps (Italian, Glacier, and Dhaulagiri), that is going to be an into-the-wild experience. The trek is a camping trek to the most extent.

Our trek towards Dhaulagiri Circuit commences with a bona fide drive from Kathmandu to the town of Beni via the city of Lakes, Pokhara. From Beni, the itinerary of the Dhaulagiri Circuit trek gradually takes us on ascends through terraced fields, dense forests, and traditional villages. Since it is an arduous and remote trail, there will be much fewer tourists than other trekking routes of Nepal so we can enjoy the peaceful environment and unspoiled nature.

En route, our Dhaulagiri Circuit Itinerary includes villages like Darbang, Dharapani, Dovan, etc. where we can experience the lifestyle and culture of the locals. Whereas moving ahead toward our destination, we will be passing through the Base Camps like Italian Base Camp and Japanese Base Camp before we step at Dhaulagiri Base Camp. As we will be heading to the higher elevation and already stepping into the alpine zone, it is essential to have a proper acclimatization here.

Afterward, we will trek towards the mysterious Hidden Valley crossing the French Pass. It is going to be a rewarding experience with spine-tingling moments and satisfying sceneries. The Hidden Valley is a secluded area surrounded by a high peak which is a unique and unspoiled place, peaceful and isolated. Hidden Valley is also a good place for acclimatization as we prepare for the descent to Dhampus Pass and lower regions the next day.

Further, we will conclude our journey crossing the Dhampus Pass and making our way towards Jomsom via Yak Kharka. From Jomsom, trekkers can either return to Pokhara and mark an end to the Dhaulagiri Trekking venture or explore around extending a couple days.

Dhaulagiri Trek is not just about the thrills and natural wonders, as we trek through the villages we will have the opportunity to interact with the local people and experience their way of life. The region is inhabited by various ethnic groups like Gurungs, Magars and Thakalis. These communities have preserved their traditions and culture for centuries and we will see traditional houses, terraced fields, and ancient monasteries along the way. So the experience of cultural tapestry along with marvelous nature and thrilling adventure is guaranteed during our Dhaulagiri Circuit Trekking.

Similarly, we will be trekking through the Annapurna Conservation Area while on our Dhaulagiri Circuit Trekking. The Annapurna Conservation Area is the largest conservation area of Nepal which abodes numerous endangered wildlife and vegetation. Hence, trekking to Dhaulagiri is also about discovering rare and extinct animals and plants which makes this arduous walk worthwhile. Being in a conservation area, trekking to Dhaulagiri requires having the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) which will be arranged by a licensed trekking agency like Nepal Mountain Guide.

As the journey is arduous and rewarding, it is recommended to have some prior trekking experience before joining the Dhaulagiri Circuit. However, for a trekker with sound physical and mental health and active in sports or exercises, it is the best choice to push their limits and create a milestone of their own experience. Our highly experienced crew will make it happen with guaranteed safety and proper attention along with required acclimatization and care.

Similarly, another crucial part of planning the Dhaulagiri Trek is the best time to trek. When shall we trek to the Dhaulagiri Circuit routes? Well, the answer is, like most trekking trails in Nepal, it is best to trek Dhaulagiri Circuit during pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons. The spring season (March to May) has a clear sky, blooming rhododendrons, and moderate temperature. Whereas, the Autumn season (September to November) is also good with stable weather and clear mountain views. During these seasons the trails are less crowded and you can enjoy the trek in solitude and beauty.
