Overview

Nar Phu Trek is one of the most adventurous trekking ventures into the rural and off-the-beaten trekking trails of Nar and Phu Valley of Nepal. Nar and Phu Valley are two delightful remote settlements in the north of the Annapurna region of Nepal. At the foothills of Manang district, this trek is ideal for someone hunting for a remote trekking experience and who desires to witness the virgin beauty of the Himalayas. Since they are less crowded and explored, these valleys are perfect for those trekkers who love to roam in solitude by exploring untouched and unexplored regions. The road to these villages gives a flavor of the rural life practiced by ancient tribes whose customs and traditions have been unchanged for centuries.

Nar Phu Trekking Trail is a Hidden Valley Trail in Nepal offering the taste of its natural wonders with local hospitality. It is a trek into the heart and soul of what makes Nepal so magical. Nar Phu Valley Trek is an experience offering the view of towering snow-capped peaks while exploring ancient villages, and pristine Tibetan Buddhist culture within a single journey. The trek is a golden opportunity for all those adventures and nature fanatics.

We trek through diverse landscapes and the splendid natural beauty with the picturesque mountain ranges that follow us on the entire places of Nar Phu Valley Trek itinerary. Because it passes various monasteries and also brings you to the sacred Muktinath temple, the Nar Phu Valley trek is additionally spiritual to both Hindus as well as Buddhists. During this rugged and wild trek to the exotic valley of Nar and Phu, we are likely to discover some of the most welcoming, hospitable, and friendly people in Nepal. Whereas, the routes of the Nar Phu Valley Trek itinerary are preserved within the Annapurna Conservation Area. Being a preserved area, we will require the Annapurna Conservation Area Permits for this trek along with the restricted area permits, as the Nar Phu Valley is also a restricted area.

From Kathmandu, our Nar Phu Valley trek begins with a drive to Dharapani and our official trekking venture will commence. The actual trekking starts after reaching Koto which is a small village and the entry point to those hidden valleys. The trail follows the Nar Khola River and then into the pine and rhododendron forest from Koto. We will experience a vast change in scenery as we ascend further and gain altitude, and reach the valley with alpine vegetation. The route will include epic cliffs and waterfalls along the trail which is also the portion of popular Annapurna Circuit Trek.

One of the major highlights of the journey is Meta, a stunning village surrounded by gigantic mountains. The village of Meta is also a great spot for a little acclimatization to prepare our body against altitude-related problems. Further on, we make our way towards Nar Village crossing the Marshyangi River and explore the remote lifestyle and culture in-depth.

Another destination of our Nar Phu Valley Trek is the village Of Phu. Located on a cliffside, the village has panoramic views of nearby peaks. While Phu is largely known for its medieval architecture such as stone houses and winding alleys replete with history, it also has several monasteries and chortens where we can watch the religious activities of the locals.

A spine-tingling portion of our Nar Phu Valley trek is crossing Kang La Pas. Despite the climb up to the pass being tough, the astounding and rewarding vistas of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho can be sighted on a clear day.  The path intersects further on from Kang La Pass towards Ngwal village and finally rejoins the trail of Annapurna Circuit to reach Manang. We will trek down to Manang Valley, a splendid place where one can take a much-desired breather and think of an amazing trip that has been led by adventure leads.

We then continue our Nar Phu Valley journey trekking from Manang to Yak Kharka and making our way toward the holy and spiritual site, Muktinath. En route, we will be crossing Thorong La Pass, one of the highest passes of our trek. At last, we conclude the trek with a flight towards Pokhara from Jomsom.

Besides such natural grandeur, the culture of Nar Phu can be really fascinating and that is one of the tourist attractions when we come to talk about any trek. The residents of Nar and Phu belong to the Tibetan tribe, hence their culture is similar to that across the border. As the different ways of life expressed in their festivals, rituals, and daily events.

The Nar Phu Trek is an adventure of a lifetime that requires trekkers to be in pretty good shape, physically and psychologically. The trails are rough and we will be trekking at high altitudes, hence it is a must to have the right kind of acclimatization. Besides, it is better to be prepared in advance with lots of working out and aerobic training beforehand. Last but not least is the right trekking gear from good and warm clothes to high-quality sleeping bags or durable boots.

We do not have to deal with extreme temperatures, which makes the journey more pleasant and bearable along with the clear vistas. Whereas, during spring, the rhododendrons are enchanting and fill the forest with colorful vegetation while autumn provides a beautiful climate and mountain scenery.
